Free vs Paid Immigration Consultations – What to Expect
I offer both free and paid consultations. They are not interchangeable, and they are not designed to lead you from one into the other. Each has a specific purpose, and understanding the difference will help you get the right level of guidance for your situation.
This page explains what to expect from each option, what makes a consultation genuinely useful, and when a paid consultation is the responsible choice.
Free 10–15 Minute Consultation – What It Is
I intentionally set aside time every day for short consultations. This is my way of giving back and helping people gain initial clarity.
If I believe your situation can be addressed responsibly within a short conversation, I will keep it free. There is no obligation, no pressure, and no attempt to upsell.
What a free consultation is good for
• A brief overview of your situation
• General direction and high-level guidance
• Identifying obvious issues or misunderstandings
• Deciding whether further review is necessary
I give you my full attention during this time, but it is intentionally limited.
Important limitations of free consultations
• Time is capped at 10–15 minutes
• No in-depth document or history review
• No strategy development or written advice
• Complex cases may be stopped or redirected
Because of these limits, free consultations are not suitable for refusals, procedural fairness letters, business programs, or high-risk decisions.
Paid Consultation (CAD $300 per hour) – What It Is
A paid consultation is appropriate when your situation requires careful analysis, context, and professional judgment.
This is where I slow things down and do the work properly. It is not rushed, and it is not generic.
A paid consultation typically includes
• Review of your background and immigration history
• Review of relevant documents or refusal letters
• Identification of risks, weaknesses, and options
• Clear explanation of what is realistic and what is not
• Strategic guidance tailored to your case
Paid consultations are designed to help you avoid mistakes, not to tell you what you want to hear.
What Makes a Good Consultation?
A good consultation is not about time spent. It is about clarity, honesty, and responsibility.
A responsible consultation:
• Is based on facts, not assumptions
• Acknowledges uncertainty and risk
• Avoids guarantees or unrealistic promises
• Respects the limits of what can be assessed quickly
Be cautious of advice that feels overly confident without a full understanding of your situation. Immigration decisions often involve nuance, timing, and consequences.
A Note of Caution About Short Advice
Immigration advice given without reviewing documents, history, and context is necessarily general. This applies to any advisor, including me.
For complex cases, refusals, or time-sensitive decisions, relying on brief consultations can lead to misunderstandings or costly mistakes. Responsible guidance sometimes requires proper time and proper review.
Free vs Paid – A Simple Comparison
Free Consultation
• Short and focused
• General guidance only
• No document review
• Suitable for simple or early-stage questions
Paid Consultation
• In-depth and strategic
• Case-specific analysis
• Document and refusal review
• Suitable for complex or high-risk cases
A Clear Boundary
If I believe your situation can be handled responsibly in a short call, I will keep it free. If your case requires deeper analysis, I will tell you honestly that a paid consultation is necessary.
This is not about luring anyone into paid services. It is about responsibility, clarity, and respecting both your situation and my professional role.
If you are unsure which option fits your situation, you may start with a free 10-minute consultation. If your case involves documents, refusals, business plans, or strategic decision-making, a paid consultation is the appropriate place to begin.
You can book either option directly through the links below.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a free consultation turn into a paid consultation?
No. A free consultation remains free. If I believe your case requires deeper analysis, I will explain why and let you decide how to proceed.
Can you review documents during a free consultation?
No. Document review requires time and context and is handled during paid consultations only.
Is the paid consultation deducted from future legal fees?
If you later retain me for ongoing representation, this can be discussed on a case-by-case basis. There is no automatic credit or guarantee.
What if I only need confirmation that something is possible?
If your question can be answered responsibly in a short conversation, a free consultation is often sufficient.
